Eight candidates triumph against one of the world’s toughest cyber training platforms
The winners of the Cyber Security Challenge’s SANS NetWars face to face competition have been announced following an intense day of battle that put contestants through the paces of a cyber professional.
Run by the SANS Institute, this challenge provided a unique opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their skills on one of the world’s most recognised cyber training platforms. Currently used by used by professionals at some of the largest companies and government organisations in the world, this was the first time NetWars had been incorporated into the Cyber Security Challenge UK and it was a superb success.
The competition took place over two hours of intense gaming that tasked participants with recovering a number of targets from a virtual environment. To add to the competitive edge, their scores were displayed on a dynamic real-time scoreboard, showing who was leading the pack and were the players to beat.

The contest was the second of four brand new face-to-face competitions launched by Cyber Security Challenge UK to test qualifiers from its first round virtual competitions, and determine the forty finalists for the Masterclass final next year. The final two competitions in this stage of the Challenge from Sophos and a collaboration between (ISC)2 and QinetiQ will determine the remaining finalists over the coming months.
