Cyber security at the heart of brand new Gibraltar Digital Skills Academy

August 2021 marked the official launch of the Gibraltar Digital Skill Academy. Open to everyone, this brand new initiative will deliver courses by the likes of CISCO and CompTIA to equip current and future talent with the skills they need to thrive.

  • Gibraltar Digital Skills Academy launched to tackle skills, gender and poverty gaps by connecting learners and employers

  • Course categories developed with a key focus on cyber security skills
  • Academy open to all – from school children aged 3 and up, to those already in industry, career changers, and anyone keen to proactively enhance their digital skill set in our increasingly online world

Gibraltar's CyberCenturion success

Gibraltar boasts a fantastic track record of success in the national CyberCenturion programme powered by Northrop Grumman, thanks to the commitment of Head of Physics, Stewart Harrison (Bayside School), Headteacher Michael Tavares, and parent Lluis Mora. We profiled their CyberCenturion journey over the years that has contributed towards Gibraltar gaining globally recognised status as a hub for cyber security talent.

Participation in CyberCenturion will continue through the Digital Skills Academy – a fantastic reflection of how the Gibraltar cohort has evolved from just seven students taking part to a highly successful cyber security club. Winning the competition over the years has been a bonus, but the real reward for Mr Harrison is seeing his students go on to launch their careers with good jobs in technology sectors.

Rock Defenders

Cyber Security Challenge UK is the official delivery partner for Rock Defenders, the first ever Gibraltar Cyber Challenge. Rock Defenders will launch in 2021 and engage over 1000 comprehensive students to equip them with the tools and skills to go on to compete in the likes of CyberCenturion.

Led by Stewart Harrison, Head of Physics at Bayside School Gibraltar, Rock Defenders has gained significant interest from sponsors including E&Y, HM Government Gibraltar, GibTelecom and Royal Gibraltar Police.
